Fantasies of the Industrial Imagination
Kaitlynn McQueston
Kaitlynn McQueston's work introduces a thoughtful dialogue between the body, the subconscious and the urban landscape.
Impassioned to protest the authority of architecture and materials as a weapon of cultural control, McQueston embraces the compassion of community folk culture and transforms the urban landscape into something understandable under these terms.
Her sculptures designate the labour object as a space where that authority breaks down; a place where that system comes not under our control, but at least under our operation. She uses labour as a point of departure for thinking about contemporary issues. Her work imagines the voices of the objects and materials around us and considers how these objects speak to our social paradigms.
