DREAD

Curated by Emily Austin
Featured artists: Daisy Bhambra, Commuted, Brian Kennedy, Branden Mayer, Alice Petrova, Quintin Teszeri, and Phoebe Todd-Parish
In 1957, Edmund Burke defined the Sublime as the "feeling of terror in response to an object or force with vast power, danger, scope, and/or obscurity". Among scientists, environmentalists, economic and political theorists, this feeling is mounting, but not for such obscure reasons as Burke described.

It is distressing to think that, on the brink of collapse, the vast majority of people's thoughts are occupied with pleasant distractions. This exhibition is meant to act as a reminder that all is not well and that it will only get worse. While dread can be a debilitating emotion, it is also often a healthy and logical response to the terrible things that occur in our world, especially those that occur by our own doing.
